How to withdraw EPF online?

Employee Provident Fund (EPF) refers to a saving plan designed for employees, a retirement scheme administered by the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). The amount is contributed to this fund by both employees and employers in a specified percentage monthly. The amount collected in the provident fund gains interest on an annual basis.

The amount collected in the fund can be withdrawn partially or fully by the individual, depending on various circumstances. This article sheds light on the process of online EPF withdrawal.

How many ways can EPF withdrawal be made?

  • The individual must be either retired or unemployed for more than two months for full withdrawal.
  • Partial withdrawal can be made for various situations, including marriage, education, home loan repayments, Covid-19, pre-retirement withdrawal, etc.

What can be the reasons for making EPF claim?

Claim for EPF withdrawal can be made for many reasons, some of which are stated below:

  • When an individual is retiring from employment at the age of 55.
  • A claim is made 1 year before retirement and can withdraw 90% of the amount.
  • An unemployed individual is eligible to withdraw 75% of the total amount after 1 month of unemployment.
  • For illness, self-declaration is required.
  • In case of the wedding, the individual must have a minimum of seven years of membership in the Fund.
  • For purchase of dwelling house/ flat or construction, the individual must have a minimum of five years of membership of the Fund.
  • For repayment of loans in special cases, the member should have ten years of membership, etc.

What is the process for withdrawal of EPF online mode?

Step 1: Visit the MEMBER e-SEWA portal i.e.
(https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/)
Step 2: Enter UAN, password, and Captcha to log in to the account.
Step 3: Click on “Online Services” and select 'Claim (Form-19, 31,10C)
Step 4: The page will open, showing details of the member and KYC details. There enter details of bank account which is linked with UAN.
Step 5: Click on Verify.
Step 6: Further click on “Proceed for Online Claim”.
Step 7: Now select the type of claim from the drop-down menu.
Step 8: Select Form 31.
Step 9: Enter the purpose of such advance.
Step 10: Enter the amount required.
Step 11: Enter employee address.
Step 12: Submit the application.
Step 13: Member should upload the requisite documents as per the purpose selected for making a claim. 

Other Key Details:

  • The amount gets credited to the bank account within 15-20 days after the employer approves the withdrawal request.
  • It must also note that to make an online EPF claim for withdrawal, individuals must activate their UAN and get it linked with the KYC (Aadhaar, PAN, and bank details). Also, KYC details must be verified through the "manage" tab before filing the withdrawal claim through “online service”.
  • The member also requires UAN to access the EPF passbook, which can be downloaded after logging into the account.
