Documents Required for Trade Licenses

Trade license is required by businesses that have operating shops, factories or any kind of formally operating business in India. The businesses need to submit the front photo of the shop or the factory along with the products as well as Address and identity proof of the applicant.

Municipal corporation office grants trade license based on the type of business activity you are involved in. The applicant will have to obtain a trade license even if he is operating his business from his home itself.

Who can Issue Trade license?

A municipal corporation can only issue trade license on the basis of power provided by Shops and establishment act. They have the authority to monitor trade practices at the state level in every jurisdiction and to see that all of them have appropriate licenses before commencing with new business.

The applicant needs to make a trade license application with an appropriate Municipal corporation authority along with the following necessary documents.

In case of an Individual

If the applicant of the license is an individual following document are necessary.

Applicants Details

  • Name of the applicant
  • Photograph of the applicant
  • Pan card

Address Proof

If you own the property

  • Electricity bill
  • Water bill
  • Gas bill

If the property is Rented

  • Lease documents/rent agreement
  • Consent letter from the owner of the property

ID Proof

  • Aadhar card
  • Voter identity card
  • Passport
Note: Aadhar card is necessary even if you provide other identity proof.

Layout of the Property

The applicant will have to submit

  • The photograph of the front of the premises along with the products being sold by them.
  • Municipality tax receipts which should not be old.
  • NOC from the immediate neighbour
  • Layout plan of the building which should be certified by the chief engineer or architect of the building.

In the case of a Company

  • Incorporation Certificate
  • MOA and AOA of the company
  • Proprietorship or trust certificate
  • If the applicant is a partnership firm then, partnership deed.
  • IT returns of the company

Complete Premises Information

  • The applicant will have to submit the front-facing photograph of the premises along with the application form to the MCD office in their jurisdiction.
  • Site plan of the shop or manufacturing unit with the complete demarcation of the neighbourhood shops.
