Documents Required for Import Export License (LEC)

The applicant needs to submit address proof, bank certificate, cancelled cheque along with the application form to apply for IEC Code registration. All the documents must be uploaded digitally.

Business Address Proof

For Rented Property – Rent Agreement, No Objection Certificate from the owner of the property and a utility bill (electricity/water) of not less than 2 months.

For Owned Property – Sales Deed, Allotment Letter or Property Tax receipt.

Note: Lease Deed will have to be submitted if the property is on lease.

Business Registration Proof

For Company – Copies of Memorandum of Association, Articles of Association and Certificate of Incorporation.

For Partnership Firm – Partnership Deed with a Registration Certificate.

Bank Certificate

The applicant needs to submit a Bank Certificate as prescribed by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade along with a cancelled check with pre-printed name and account number of the applicant.

Identity Proof

The applicant needs to submit any of the following as identity proof –

  • Aadhar Card
  • Passport
  • Driving License
  • Voter ID

You need to provide additional documents to make changes in any of the details after registration.  The requirement may also differ based on the type of business registration.

In case of Proprietorship

  • A copy of Passport, Voter-ID Card or Aadhar Card if there are any changes in name or address of the applicant.  
  • Sale deed, Rent/Lease Agreement, latest utility bill for changes in business address.
  • Bank certificate or cancelled cheque for changes in bank details.  

In case of Partnership Firm

  • Copy of partnership deed, updated copy of the Passport, Voter ID or Aadhar Card of the managing partner if you want to change/modify the partner.
  • A copy of Passport, Voter-ID Card or Aadhar Card if there are any changes in name or address of the applicant. 
  • Sale deed, Rent/Lease Agreement, latest utility bill for changes in business address.

In case of Company

  • Updated copy of the Passport, Voter ID or Aadhar Card of the partner/director and DIN details as mentioned in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
  • Sale deed, Rent/Lease Agreement, latest utility bill for changes in business address.
  • Bank certificate or cancelled cheque for changes in bank details. 

The IEC holder can also change/modify his contact details anytime however it cannot be done simultaneously.

Note: The authorities can cancel your application if any detail/information is false or fake.

Important

  • All the documents must be uploaded in GIF/JPEG format with a size not more than 5 MB.
  • Once all the documents are submitted successfully, they are checked by the concerned authority for authentication.
  • The applicant is liable for penal/criminal action for providing wrong/incorrect details.
  • In case a trader is registered under GST, then you do not require applying for LEC Code separately. Your GSTIN will be considered as LEC Code during import/export activities.
