Earlier, in the absence of an online application, in order to apply for a trademark, the application had to be filed in one of trademark offices depending on the place of residence or place of business, manually or by post; however, now you can do so online.
The Trademark Registry has five offices which are located in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Ahmadabad. These offices weren’t easily accessible. This defeated the purpose of the Trademark Act to grant the protection to the business as Trademark was not registered. Therefore, in order to overcome this problem, an e-filling system of the Trademarks was introduced. The registration can be done by the following:

In order to enable e-filing, login facility is made available on the home page of the Registry’s website. The user has to register for logging in. If a user is already registered, he can log in using the User ID and Password or Digital signature(DSC).
Upon successful registration, the user can login either with User Id and Password or User Id and Digital signature for logging into the system. On successful login, the username and its user code will be displayed on the header.

After filling the online application and uploading all the relevant documents, a temporary Application number is generated, once you make the online payment using the IPO Payment Gateway hosted by IPOs designated bank.
In case of successful transactions, an acknowledgement will be generated containing the details of the submitted form.
