The following specification describes the invention
The present invention relates to ladle sequencing in a steel melting division. The present process is an improved process of metal ladle sequencing driven with battery or multi number of furnaces working with single casting machine in a steel melting shop. It is the steel melting division where the iron and steel scrap with sponge iron is being melted in electric induction furnace. The liquid metal hence made is added with specified chemicals for standard chemistry, is taken in a liquid handling bucket called "Ladle" and is cast to a definite square shape called "Billet" through a casting machine, called continuous casting machine. These Billets are then further rolled into different shapes.
The conventional steel plants have multiple numbers of furnaces with a single casting machine. The first batch of liquid metal heat is taken in a ladle and kept on a casting machine. Another furnace metal batch is kept waiting for sequence casting. Just before the end of pouring the liquid metal in the first ladle, a second batch of metal is taken in another ladle with the help of another overhead crane. After emptying the first ladle, it is taken out by an overhead crane and the second batch liquid metal ladle is kept on casting station. The pouring of liquid metal is done with hydraulically operated power pack at casting machine. At this stage, the exchange of two ladles takes place.
In this present claimed invention, the exchange of two ladles is avoided. The first batch ladle, called "Parental Ladle'' is kept at casting station permanently and all the other batches of liquid metal are continuously fed into the "Parental Ladle" as continuous transfer.
2
The "Parental Ladle" stands at casting station permanently and another batch of liquid metal from a series of furnaces is taken batch wise in a ladle called "Transfer Ladle" with the help of the same crane and is taken on the top of the "Parental Ladle" and the metal is transferred from the bottom gate which is mecha-manually designed in-house for this purpose. Then the same ladle is taken for third batch, forth batch, and so on, to many numbers of furnaces without the exchange of ladles by the overhead crane.
Following are the equipments used in the process:
1) Single overhead crane.
2) One "Parental Ladle" operated with hydraulic power pack.
3) Transfer Ladles.
Main differentiating features of the present invention are:
1) The timing of each batch/each heat is decreased by 15 minutes as waiting of emptying the first ladle.
2) Hot metal holding at high temperature is avoided.
3) Refractory consumption at casting machine is reduced.
4) Failures of sequence at the time of ladle exchange are nil.
5) Productivity is increased by 15-20%.
Features 1&2 reduce the power consumption as there is no holding time, saving electrical energy.
3
Feature 3 reduces the refractory consumption, reducing garbage, saving the environment.
Feature 4 reduces the costing per unit of production.
